         I almost forgot this interesting shape cookie until Ivorine said her sister liked it.  Tuile d'amande, which is almond tile in English, has the shape of a tile. A more sensual saying is that women of Provence put the cookies on their thighs to make this curving shape. The cookie recalls you also the shape of women's beautiful legs.  No matter tiles or women's legs, it looks lovely: golden on the sides, blond in the center, slightly curved. And it's thin and crispy with a falvor of toasted sliced almonds.

Banana Bread (香蕉蛋糕)

         Zozo shared me the recipe of this banana bread. It's an American style home made cake. It's easy to prepare and very satisfying for a afternoon tea. I like the coarse and soft texture from the whole wheat flour, small pieces of dry figs mixed inside and the roasted walnuts on top. And it's a good way to finish ripe bananas.

        California is a perfect place for growing lemon trees. They like the sunshine and grow happily here. I always see lush lemon trees with plenty of lemons in people's backyard. Meyer lemon is California's special. They were imported from China and improved in California. They have a sweeter and more floral taste than other lemons. Their skin is smoothy, fragrant and thin, colored a deep yellow with a slight orange tint when they are ripe.

        Maya brought me a box of cookies from Kyoto. It's the green tea cats tongue from Malebranche. She said that Kyoto was famous for high quality green tea and Malebranche made lots of fine pastries with green tea.

        One of the things I like about California is there are lots of good products, such as Meyer lemon, almonds, and cherries, etc. Cherry season started in late May in the Bay Area. We can easily find big and good taste black cherries in local market. And they brought the idea of making clafoutis!
