Then I heard about this cake more and more from my Japanese friends. I finally ate it for at Yuki's wedding party, then at Maiko's baby shower party. It's made of sponge cake, strawberry and whipped cream. The soft sponge cake mixes with sweet sour fresh strawberries and smoothy and light whipped cream. It is just simple and delicious.
I finally got the chance to make strawberry shortcake for Mayu's baby shower party. The process reminded me my childhood birthday cake, more specific, the process to cut the cake into two layers, spread the cake with whipped cream, put strawberries- in China we usually put canned fruits-, cover the whole cake with whipped cream, then spread cream evenly with a palette, next pipe waves with whipped cream, finally put fruits and write "Happy Birthday" for decoration. This process has fascinated me during my childhood. Every time I enjoyed watching pastry chefs doing it behind windows and imagined I was making it myself.
Making this cake made me achieve my childhood dream.
I used chiffon cake, whipped cream with vanilla beans, strawberries and marshmallow sugar paste for baby figures.
